The Western Interior Seaway was a vast inland sea that covered much of North America during the Cretaceous period, approximately 100 to 66 million years ago. It stretched from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean and was bordered by the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Appalachian Mountains to the east. The seaway was home to a diverse range of marine life, including ammonites, mosasaurs, and plesiosaurs.
